WPL 2025: Sophie Ecclestone Helps UP Warriorz Win First-Ever Super Over

Ecclestone defended nine runs in the super over as UP Warriorz script history

All-rounder Sophie Ecclestone scripted history as UP Warriorz became the side to win the first-ever Super Over in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history on February 24. The left-arm spinner even got Smriti Mandhana before the left-hander overturned the LBW decision, defending nine runs.

Ecclestone’s super over was top-notch, with the left-arm spinner darting the ball into the left-hander with just four runs. The game only went to the Super Over because of an outstanding fielding display from Richa Ghosh, who ran towards the stumps to take the game to over time.

But before that, it was one-way traffic from the English all-rounder, who smashed 33 off 19 balls, hitting four sixes in a crunch situation. It was the second consecutive win for the Warriorz, who leapfrogged to third over Delhi Capitals.

On the other hand, it was RCB's second consecutive loss, as they went from comfortably topping the table to experiencing slight shivers.
