IPL 2025: Who Are LSG's Newbies Prince Yadav And Digvesh Rathi?
Lucknow Super Giants handed caps to two debutants, Prince Yadav and Digvesh Rathi in their IPL 2025 opener against Delhi Capitals
Amidst the injury chaos in the Lucknow Super Giants’ camp, the franchise have been forced to hand over caps to two debutants - Prince Yadav and Digvesh Rathi - in their IPL 2025 opener against Delhi Capitals on March 24 (Monday).
But who are Prince Yadav and Digvesh Rathi, you may ask?
Prince Yadav - the breakthrough star of DPL
You can say that Lucknow Super Giants are yet again at it, trying to unearth another pace sensation, this time in the form of Prince Yadav. The 23-year-old was one of the most impressive bowlers in the inaugural edition of Delhi Premier League (DPL).
Representing Purani Delli 6, the right-arm speedster picked up 13 wickets in eight games. He was captained by none other than Rishabh Pant during the inaugural season. That successful season in the DPL led to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) handing him a cap during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024/25.
In that competition, Yadav took 11 wickets, maintaining an excellent economy of 7.5. The speedster made his debut for Delhi against Uttar Pradesh, where he took 2 wickets, removing Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi. He also smashed 17 off nine balls against Jharkhand in 2024 SMAT.
Watch out, for he could become yet another pace sensation.
Digvesh Rathi, a mystery spinner from DPL
Rishabh Pant has indeed done a great deal of scouting for LSG in the inaugural edition of the DPL, with the mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi, too, emerging out of the competition. The mystery spinner was amongst the top five wicket-takers in the first edition of DPL, with 14 wickets.
Just like Varun Chakaravarthy, the mystery spinner has a deadly googly, with ten out of his 14 wickets coming off that delivery type. More to that, he has a reputation for bowling well in the second innings, taking 11 wickets across five innings while bowling second.
“Whichever mystery bowler is there, I find them good, there’s Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine and Ravi Bishnoi. I have learnt from Narine that I have to show the ball at the last minute to the batters, which reduces their reaction time. I have also picked up Varun’s run-up, and have put that into practise,” Rathi said in an Instagram post during DPL.
So, don’t be surprised if he bamboozles a lot of batters tonight.
