WPL 2025: RCB Eliminated After Loss To UPW; Playoff Teams Confirmed
RCB needed a win to stay alive in the tournament but they slipped to a 12-run defeat chasing 226
On the back of a heartbreaking loss against UP Warriorz in Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have become the second and final team to be eliminated from the group stages of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL).
RCB needed a win to stay alive in the tournament, but they slipped to a 12-run defeat chasing 226.
The result means that Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Giants (GG) have all officially progressed to the playoffs. As per the current format, the table topper goes directly to the final and all three of MI, DC and GG currently have a chance of topping the table. MI have two games remaining so they will progress to the final directly if they win their remaining two clashes.
On the night, RCB put up a dismal showing with the ball, conceding the highest total in WPL history. UPW’s Georgia Voll posted the joint-highest individual score in WPL history (99*).
In response, though, RCB put up an incredible fight and were in with a real shout of chasing the target down. They were in the hunt first thanks to Sabbhineni Meghana (27 off 12), Ellyse Perry (28 off 15) and Richa Ghosh (69 off 33 balls).
And then, with the game effectively dead and buried, Sneh Rana, out of nowhere, played an extraordinary cameo to revive RCB’s hopes. Rana hit 26 off six balls, which was the second-fastest knock in Women’s T20 history.
Highest strike rate in a knock in Women's T20 (min 25 runs)
457.14 - Chloe Tryon (SA) vs IND in 2018
433.3 - Sneh Rana (RCB) vs UPW in 2025
366.66 - Laura Wolvaardt (SA) vs WI in 2021
But Rana couldn’t take RCB over the line as she fell on the final ball of the penultimate over. Post that, RCB were nine wickets down, and they slipped to a 12-run defeat after Renuka Singh got run out in the final over.
