WPL 2025: Gujarat Giants Thrash UP Warriorz To Register Record Win
The Giants registered their biggest victory by runs in the WPL, defeating UPW by 81 runs in Lucknow
Gujarat Giants have got their campaign back on track, winning back-to-back games in four days and reaching second on the points table after having six points in six games with three wins.
Today, March 3, they defeated UP Warriorz by 81 runs — their biggest win by runs in the history of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the highest for any team this season, and the second highest in the history of WPL.
Batting first, the Giants flew high on the stellar start provided by Beth Mooney. Unperturbed by the loss of Dayalan Hemalatha at the top, she had a 101(68) run partnership with Harleen Deol (45 off 32). She showed immense skill in continually finding the gaps in the field and used her field to great effect to score 96* off just 59 deliveries.
She played cricketing shots throughout her innings but got stranded in the last over on the non-striker’s end and missed the opportunity to become the first-ever centurion of the WPL.
Gujarat ended up with a big score of 186/5, and the UPW needed a strong start to their chase. However, Deandra Dottin swatted away Kiran Navgire and Georgia Voll in her first over itself, and Kashvee Gautam carried forward the attack to clean up Vrinda Dinesh with a big inswinger.
These early wickets crippled UPW’s batting order, and wickets kept falling as they eventually fell short of the target by 81 runs! Only Grace Harris (25 off 30) and Chinelle Henry (28 off 14) could score more than 20 runs as UPW folded for 105 runs in 17.1 overs.
Both Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kabeer ended with three wickets each in the game, as Gujarat rose in the points table with this win. After a humungous win, they have a positive net run rate, and they would look to win their remaining two games to finish in the top three and reach the knockouts.
