WPL 2025 Eliminator: Gujarat Giants Suffer Major Blow, Debutant Dani Gibson Replaces Dottin

Gujarat Giants suffered a major injury blow in their first-ever Eliminator in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. Deandra Dottin injured herself right before the toss, missing the clash. English all-rounder Dani Gibson has replaced her in the side.
Ashleigh Gardner won the toss and chose to bowl first on a fresh pitch at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. Thankfully, there have been no other changes apart from Dottin in the Gujarat playing XI.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made just one change to the XI, which played the last league game against RCB and brought in experienced left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque in place of youngster Parunika Sisodia.
This is Mumbai Indians' third eliminator in a row, while Gujarat has reached the top three for the first time.

What Did The Captains Say
Harmanpreet Kaur: Yeah it's a fresh pitch (If MI have bowled first as well?). For us, anything was okay. We have been in this situation twice and know how important this game is. Only thing which works well is when you stay in the moment. One change - Parunika is not playing, and Saika is back.
Ashleigh Gardner: We're going to bowl. It's another fresh wicket, and we feel that we did a lot of things right the other night. Didn't get the win, but taking a lot of positives from what we were able to do in the bowling innings. Dani Gibson comes in for Deandra Dottin. It happened five minutes ago because of an injury. Really unfortunate for such a big game, but stoked for Danielle who makes her debut. It's a pretty cool opportunity, and hopefully, she can shine. Generally it's high-scoring. Might be a little bit in the wicket early. Everyone's super excited. We've played some really good cricket in this tournament. Apart from excitement, I'm sure there a lot of nerves as well in the camp as we've not been here before.

Deep Dasgupta and Mithali Raj informed that this is a fresh pitch for the game tonight. The pitch is brownish. The square boundaries 52 meters and 59 meters. The straight boundary is 68 meters. There is a decent amount of grass, but it is only to bind the wicket. There are patches with little grass, so it could be on the slower side. There is a little moisture, but it will probably ease out when the match gets going. There could be help for seamers in the powerplay but it will ease out after that.
