WPL 2025: Deepti Sharma Replaces Alyssa Healy as UP Warriorz Captain

The Australian wicketkeeper-batter, who led the Warriorz in the first two seasons is out due to an injury

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been appointed as the new captain of UP Warriorz, the franchise announced ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 on February 9 (Sunday). She replaces Australia wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a foot and knee injury

Under Healy, the Warriorz finished third in the first season but slipped to fourth the next year.

Former India batter Suresh Raina announced Deepti as the franchise's captain on Star Sports during the build-up to the second One-Day International (ODI) between India and England. Deepti, in fact, presented Raina with a Warriorz jersey to kick start a new era for the team.

Deepti had an excellent WPL 2024, where she smashed 298 runs at 98.33 along with an impressive strike rate of 136.57. She delivered with the ball too, picking up 10 wickets at an economy rate of 7.23 in eight matches.

The Warriorz begin their WPL 2025 campaign against Gujarat Giants on February 16 (Sunday) in Vadodara.
