Why Is Sunil Narine Missing An IPL Game After 1435 Days?
KKR have replaced him with England’s spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali, who is making his debut for the franchise
Kolkata Knight Riders’s (KKR) premier player Sunil Narine is unwell and will miss the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on March 26 (Wednesday). Both teams lost their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
KKR have replaced him with England’s spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali, who is making his debut for the franchise. Moeen has played 48 games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and 19 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the past.
Meanwhile, the Royals have also made one change to their playing XI, replacing Afghanistan’s left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi with Sri Lankan legspinner Wanindu Hasaranga. Farooqi conceded 49 runs in three overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Sunil Narine last missed a game for KKR in the IPL in 2020. It’s been 1435 days since he missed an IPL game. He has played all 58 matches in the tournament since then.
The last time Narine played against RR, the West Indian smashed his only T20 century and picked up two wickets.
It was KKR who won the toss and decided to bowl first against RR.
