Watch: Noman Ali becomes first spinner, oldest Pakistani to take Test hat-trick
Ali became the fifth bowler after pacers Wasim Akram, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Sami and Naseem Shah to pick a Test hat-trick for Pakistan
Noman Ali created history on January 25 (Saturday) as he became the first Pakistani spinner to claim a Test hat-trick. He removed Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach and Kevin Sinclair on consecutive deliveries of the 12th over of the first innings of the second Test of the two-match series against West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.
With this hat-trick, he also became the oldest Pakistani to achieve the feat. At 38 years and 110 days, Ali is also the second oldest ever to pick a Test hat-trick after Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath. Herath, also a left-arm spinner, took a hat-trick at 38 years and 138 days against Australia in 2016.
As for Pakistanis, Ali became the fifth bowler after pacers Wasim Akram, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Sami and Naseem Shah to pick a Test hat-trick. Before Noman, Akram was the oldest to take a Test hat-trick at the age of 33 years, when he took not one but two hat-tricks in the year 1999 against Sri Lanka.
As far as the second Test is concerned, West Indies, after opting to bat first on a rank turner, found themselves in deep trouble as they lost seven wickets for just 38 runs. However, at the time of writing, they were 68/8, having surpassed their lowest Test score of 47.
