Towhid Hridoy - First Bangladesh Batter To Hit Century Against India In ICC Event
He also became the fifth Bangladesh batter smashed a hundred in the Champions Trophy
Towhid Hridoy, on February 20 (Thursday), became the first Bangladesh batter to slam a hundred against India in any ICC event, be it 20-over format or 50-over format. The 24-year-old scored 100 off 118 deliveries against India in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai.
Hridoy also became the fifth Bangladesh batter after Tamim Iqbal, Shahriar Nafees, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah to hit a century in the Champions Trophy. Overall, the right-hander became the sixth batter to get a ton against India in the tournament.
Bangladesh were 35/5 in 8.3 after opting to bat first, and that’s when Hridoy and Jaker Ali put up a tremendous partnership for the sixth wicket. The two added 154 runs before Jaker fell to Shami for 68 off 114 deliveries.
Hridoy, who has been one of Bangladesh’s best batters in this format in the last couple of years, carried on and displayed superb patience. He slammed six fours and two maximums before falling to Harshit Rana in the final over.
This was Hridoy’s maiden international century, helping Bangladesh to recover from 35/5 to 228 all out in 49.4 overs.
Since the start of 2023, only Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim have scored more runs for Bangladesh in ODI cricket than Hridoy. In 30 innings, Hridoy has 977 runs at an average of 36.19 and a strike rate of 83.7.
