Sunil Gavaskar blasts English media for criticising Chennai pitch

The former India skipper did not mince words as he called the England media moaners and crybabies on air during the second Test in Kanpur

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar did not mince words while taking a dig at the English media, who criticised the pitch for the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai

Referring to Ravichandran Ashwin's century and his 199-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja, Gavaskar felt that the pitch's criticism was uncalled for as the duo showed that runs can be scored on that pitch.

Ashwin also picked up six wickets in the second innings to walk away with the Player of the Match award. Gavaskar reckons that the English media are just a bunch of moaners and crybabies.

"He [Ashwin] actually said in the press conference that you can get a hundred if you apply yourself. So he walked the talk when the moaners were going on saying 'you can't bat here'. Saying and doing all the things like crybabies, typical English media stuff, where they only talk about Indian pitches," Gavaskar said on air during the second India-Bangladesh Test in Kanpur.

Thanks to Ashwin's all-round performance, India went on to win the Chepauk Test by 280 runs and go 1-0 up in the two-match series against Bangladesh. They also consolidated their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
