SRH Begin IPL 2025 With A Bang, Equal Fastest Team 200 Record
SRH reached crossed 200 in just 14.1 overs, which is the joint fastest any team has reached the milestone in the IPL
It’s only the first game of the season, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have begun the 2025 season by playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) the same way they played the last season in 2024.
Being asked to bat first after losing the toss, SRH began their innings with a bang in the powerplay itself. They made full use of the great batting surface available to them at their home ground and became the joint-fastest team to complete the milestone of 200 runs (in just 14.1 overs) in the IPL.
Left-handed openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head began in fiery fashion, with Sharma getting going from the first over itself. He batted for 11 deliveries and scored five fours in that period. Meanwhile, Head was going ballistic from the other end as he began opening his hands in the second over and smashed Maheesh Theekshana for a four and a six in the second.
The openers had a 45-run partnership in just 19 deliveries as Sharma departed for an 11-ball 24. However, Ishan Kishan didn’t let that wicket affect the run-scoring at all and, along with Head, continued to pulverise the Rajasthan bowlers into submission. The 100 came up in 6.4 overs only, as Head took a special liking to Jofra Archer, also smashing him for a 105-metre six.
Once Head was dismissed in the 10th over with the score reading 130/2 in 9.3 overs, it was expected that Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kishan will take some time to consolidate. However, both batters continued to play their shots and crossed 200 in just 14.1 overs. That partnership between Reddy and Kishan collected 72 runs in 29 deliveries for SRH as they created history in the first game of the season itself.
