Shubman Gill's Blueprint For IPL 2025: Ready To Make 240, Prepared To Defend 150

Gill also asserted that the Titans have been the most consistent team in the IPL in the last three seasons

Gujarat Titans (GT) finished a lowly eighth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This was their worst finish in the league's three-season history, having won it in 2022 and finished runners-up in 2023. The worst season coincided with Shubman Gill’s first stint as Titans captain.

Fresh from the learnings from the previous season and his stint as full-time India’s ODI vice-captain, Gill has outlined the blueprint for his team’s success in IPL 2025, and it is ‘adapting according to the situation’.

"I don't think as a team we're trying to chase 300 as a total. That's not what our aim is. We will assess the condition and situation,” Gill said in a pre-season press conference on March 19 (Wednesday) in Ahmedabad.

“If the wicket or the situation allows us to make 240, 250, [or] 260 runs, yeah, we are not saying no to that, but there might be a situation where 150, [or] 160 would be an ideal total on a wicket,” added the 25-year-old.

What Gill essentially wanted to convey was, "I feel that as a team, if you are only looking to play one way, then you're not adapting, and the hallmark of a great team is that it adapts the best to the suitable conditions and the challenges that are thrown at them."

Is there any need to change anything about the Titans’ approach this season? Gill feels that the team has been the most consistent outfit in the last three seasons in the IPL, and hence, there is no need to change anything at all.

"If you look at our record over the past three years, we are the team with the most wins and the highest percentage of wins. If we continue to do that, it's going to be another great season for us. And just because it's a new season, I don't think we have to do anything different," he said.

The Titans will open their IPL 2025 campaign against the Punjab Kings on March 25 at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
