Shreyas, Pant, bowlers hand India a comprehensive 96-run victory

With this win, India have completed a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series against West Indies

Yet another clinical bowling performance from India sees them beat West Indies by 96 runs in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) in Ahmedabad. Chasing 266, West Indies once again failed to cross 200 in the series and were bowled out for just 169 in 37.1 overs.

Prasidh Krishna (3 for 27) and Mohammed Siraj (3 for 29) were the pick of the bowlers for India, while Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets apiece.

Prasidh had a standout series, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with nine scalps at 7.55 to go with a miserly economy rate of 2.50.

After opting to bat first, India got off to a shaky start and had lost three wickets in the first 10 overs, including Virat Kohli for the two-ball duck. Shreyas Iyer (80) and Rishabh Pant (56) then came together to stitch a 110-run stand for the fourth wicket to resurrect India's innings.

Shreyas and Pant started off slowly but once in, they started to play their strokes, with the latter scoring a lot quicker.

Chahar then played a cameo scoring run-a-ball 38 to induce some momentum in the Indian innings. Along with Washington Sundar (33), Chahar put on 53 for the seventh wicket. A few clean hits in the end, saw India go past 260.

Jason Holder was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, finishing with 4 for 34.

In reply, West Indies lost seven wickets inside the first 20 overs, but the tail did not surrender meekly. After Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for 34, Odean Smith played an entertaining knock that consisted of three sixes and three fours on his way to an 18-ball 36, while Alzarri Joseph (29) and Hayden Walsh (13) held fort.

However, despite trying their best, they could not bat out the 50 overs, comfortably falling short in the end. India went into this match at the back of an expressive six-wicket victory in the first ODI and followed that up with yet another 44-run win in the second game.

The action now shifts to the T20 International series (T20I), starting February 16 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Brief scores: India 265 in 50 overs (Shreyas Iyer 80, Rishabh Pant 56; Jason Holder 4 for 34) beat West Indies 169 in 37.1 overs (Odean Smith 36, Nicholas Pooran 34; Prasidh Krishna 3 for 27) by 96 runs.
