India middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan praised Rohit Sharma, comparing him to Aamir Khan’s character ‘Bhuvan’ in the famous cricket-themed movie Lagaan. Sarfaraz, who made his debut for India in the Test series against England in February, also called Rohit, an elder brother.
"Lagaan is my favourite movie. The way Aamir Khan assembles his team, Rohit [Sharma] bhai, reminds me of that. For me, he's Lagaan's Aamir Khan. It feels like he's part of your family,” Sarfaraz said in an interview with Jio Cinema.
Earlier in an interview with the same channel, Dhruv Jurel had called Rohit the GOAT of Indian cricket.
Sarfaraz, who scored 200 runs in three matches of the five-match series against England, impressed everyone with his strike rate (79.37), giving it back to the Bazball side. But the confidence in Sarfaraz was all thanks to Rohit, who did not let him feel like a junior in the side despite it being his first series for India.
"He's very different, makes you comfortable and is like an elder brother to us. I enjoy playing with him. He never treats you like a junior. He's a positive guy. The way he speaks, it boosts your confidence," news agency ANI quoted the middle-order batter as saying.
Rohit will now lead the Indian side in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Though Sarfaraz is in the Indian squad, making the playing 11 for the Chennai Test starting September 18 looks difficult for him because of poor red-ball form.
