Sanju Samson touches 500-run mark for first time in IPL season

The RR skipper has five 50-plus scores in IPL 2024. Once again, the most he has managed in a season

Sanju Samson has reached 500 runs for the first time in a single season of the Indian Premier League. His previous highest was 484 in the 2021 edition.

He went past the landmark against Punjab Kings on May 15 (Wednesday). Samson scored 18 off 15 before falling to Nathan Ellis.

The 29-year-old is one of the best T20 batters in India but has always struggled for consistency. Samson made his IPL debut in 2013 and only twice has he averaged more than 35 in a single edition - in 2021 (40.33) and 2024 (56).

What’s more, the Rajasthan Royals skipper has five 50-plus scores in IPL 2024. Once again, the most he has managed in an IPL season. He only has one single-digit score in IPL 2024, getting out for a duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Overall, Samson has scored 504 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 156.5. Rajasthan have already qualified for the playoffs, and Samson has played a major role in that.

The wicketkeeper-batter is also part of India's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
