Pakistan Stars Slapped With Punishment For Unsportsmanlike Conduct Against South Africa

Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam have been reprimanded by the ICC

Pakistan’s historic victory over South Africa in Karachi has come at a cost as three players - Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam - have been fined for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Shaheen has been slapped with the biggest punishment among the three, with the fast bowler fined 25% of his match fee and hit with a demerit point for inappropriate physical contact with top-order batter Matthew Breetzke. Shaheen first indulged in a verbal fight with Breetzke before physically intimidating him by bumping into him when the batter was crossing over to take a single.

Meanwhile, Saud and substitute fielder Kamran have been fined 10 per cent each of their match fee for celebrating right in front of the face of Temba Bavuma after running the South Africa skipper out. The duo have been hit with one demerit point each as well.

While Shaheen is found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match”, Saud and Kamran have been found to have breached Article 2.5 of the Code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

On-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Michael Gough, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi levelled the charges.
