Nobody pointed fingers even when we were losing: Yash Dayal
The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 3/20 against DC on May 12 (Sunday) to help his side to their fifth win in a row
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have turned a corner in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with five wins on the bounce. They brushed aside Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs on May 12 (Sunday) to keep themselves in contention for a place in the playoffs.
Things looked grim for RCB when they had won just one of their first eight games, but they have turned a corner ever since. If they beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their final game, they could sneak into the top four.
RCB pacer Yash Dayal, who picked up three wickets against DC, said that there was no finger-pointing in the dressing room even when RCB were on a losing streak.
"There has been a positive change. Even when we were losing, no one was pointing anyone's name out. This supportive atmosphere, coupled with a newfound aggressive approach, seems to be the winning formula for RCB," Dayal said in the post-match press conference.
"There has been a positive change. Even when we were losing, no one was pointing anyone out, so it's a big positive point. And all through the season, we were positive. And now we have become more attacking."
Dayal's three wickets on Sunday included that of DC skipper Axar Patel, who was posing a threat to RCB, finishing with a 39-ball 57 in the end. Dayal has largely been good for RCB with the ball this season and has used his variations to good effect more often than not. He is RCB's leading wicket-taker this season, with 13 scalps - one more than Mohammed Siraj - at an economy of 8.8.
"Credit for this goes to our coaches. Whenever I start bowling, my aim is just to remove the batter in front of me so that I can save some runs. So this is a very positive sign for the team," Dayal explained.
RCB now have 12 points from their 13 games so far. They take on CSK on May 18 (Saturday) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in a bid to make the playoffs.
