New Zealand’s star spin-bowling all-rounder Melie Kerr tore her left quadricep muscle in the first One-Day International against India and has been ruled out of the remaining two games in Ahmedabad, to be played on October 27 and 29.
Kerr was taken for scans the morning after the game which revealed a grade one quadricep tear requiring approximately three weeks of recovery. She will return home on October 27 to start rehabilitation, stated the release from New Zealand Cricket.
“We’re really gutted for Melie. Injuries are always a challenging time for a player and we know how disappointed she is to not be able to play these games,” said head coach Ben Sawyer.
“Everyone knows how much of an integral part of this team Melie is so we’ll certainly miss her but we’re wishing her a speedy recovery.”
The all-rounder will also miss the majority of the Women's Big Bash League, starting on October 27.
Kerr scored 43 runs and picked up three wickets against South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. She was not only the Player of the Match in the final but was also named Player of the Tournament as the White Ferns lifted an ICC title after 23 years.
