New Zealand Captain To Miss Upcoming Series To 'Prioritise Well-Being'
The all-rounder was last seen in action in a domestic T20 competition earlier this year
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine will miss the incoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka to "prioritise her well-being," New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced in a media release on February 17 (Monday).
She had earlier pulled out of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, where she was due to represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and also pulled out of the Women's Super Smash mid-way after "receiving professional advice."
"We are fully supportive of Sophie's decision to not take part in the upcoming series," Liz Green, New Zealand Cricket's Head of Women's High Performance, said in a statement.
"Player well-being is our highest priority and it's important Sophie feels fit and well before returning to professional cricket."
Devine, who led the White Ferns to the T20 World Cup title last year, played in the ODIs against India, played in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), and also represented her country in the ODIs against Australia.
She was also active in Super Smash, where her side, Wellington, went on to win the title.
New Zealand play three ODIs and three T20Is against Sri Lanka starting March 4. They are also scheduled to play three T20Is against Australia, starting March 21.
