Nathan Lyon Breaks Shane Warne's Two-Decade-Long Record

The off-spinner is now the most successful Australian bowler against Sri Lanka in Tests

With the wicket of Kusal Mendis on Day Four of the second Test, Nathan Lyon broke Shane Warne's record of becoming the most successful Australian bowler against Sri Lanka. Lyon now has 60 wickets against Sri Lanka, going past Warne's 59 - the last of which came in 2004. Lyon's wickets have come at an average of 31.98 and strike rate of 61.

Most Test wickets for Australia against Sri Lanka:

Nathan Lyon 60

Shane Warne 59

Mitchell Starc 57

Glenn McGrath 37

Craig McDermott  27

Interestingly, Lyon also made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle back in 2011 and got the big wicket of Kumar Sangakkara off his very first delivery.

In the recently concluded series, Lyon finished with 14 wickets at 22.50, two behind Matthew Kuhnemann. The off-spinner also picked up a couple of four-wicket hauls to help Australia complete a 2-0 whitewash. This is also Australia's first Test series win on Sri Lankan soil since 2011.

Australia decimated the hosts in the first Test, winning by an innings and 242 runs. However, Sri Lanka put up a little fight in the next game yet succumbed to a nine-wicket defeat.

The action now shifts to Colombo for the two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on February 12 and 14.
