Mohammed Shami Not 100% Fit? Pacer Makes Wobbly Start Against Pakistan
Shami began the contest with a very awry first over, where he bowled as many as five wides
There was plenty of anticipation in Dubai on February 23 (Sunday) when Mohammed Shami took the new ball against Pakistan, but the speedster ended up underwhelming in his three-over spell.
Shami only conceded 13 runs in the three overs he bowled but was down on pace and looked far from 100% fit. The physio attended to him in his third over, after which Shami was taken off the attack and replaced by Hardik Pandya.
On the day, the right-arm pacer began the contest with a very awry first over, where he bowled as many as five wides. That’s right. This was not a case of a bowler bowling a wide that went to the boundary but Shami bowled five separate wides, struggling for control against both the right and left-hander.
He corrected his line and length across the next two overs and was far more disciplined, but still struggled to run through the batters, largely because of how down on pace he was.
Overall, Shami bowled 23 deliveries in his first spell - wides included - and 17 of the deliveries were clocked at 133 kph or lower.
As it turned out, Shami going off the field proved to be a blessing in disguise for India as Hardik Pandya came into the attack and removed the dangerous Babar Azam, who was looking in sublime touch.
India would be hoping that Shami has not picked up a new injury or a niggle, and returns to bowling full tilt soon.
