The tour will consist of three one-day and two four-day games, starting August 31

Kyle Verreynne and Neil Brand have been named captains for the South Africa A for their home series against Sri Lanka A, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced in a media release on Thursday (August 1). Brand recently led a depleted South Africa side in the two Tests against New Zealand this year. Whole his side may have lost, he displayed great leadership qualities.

“Neil did a great job leading South Africa in the two-match Test series against New Zealand earlier this year. He displays the necessary leadership qualities and has the game to back that up," Test head coach Shukri Conrad, who will be overseeing the tour, said.

Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana, who is currently captaining the SA Emerging Men’s side against Zimbabwe Emerging, has been named in both squads, along with batters Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, and pace pair Lutho Sipamla and Codi Yusuf.

The tour will consist of three one-day matches, which will be played in Potchefstroom from 31 August - 04 September. This will be followed by two four-day matches in Kimberley and Benoni between September 8 and 18.

“Both squads were selected based on strong domestic performances and with one eye on the future, considering players who could potentially challenge for spots in the ODI and Test squads down the line,” Conrad said.

“This tour presents a great opportunity for Kyle, who has demonstrated his capabilities as a captain by successfully leading Western Province to the domestic 50-over title last season.

“We want to create a culture of winning, and I think it will be a competitive tour against Sri Lanka. They are a tough opposition, and while they are strong in their home conditions, they continue to improve in foreign conditions. We expect a tightly contested series,” concluded Conrad.
