KKR-SRH confirmed as Qualifier 1; RR will face RCB in Eliminator

Incessant rain in Guwahati means that both KKR and RR had to accept just a point each

Due to incessant rain in Guwahati, it is now confirmed that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 on May 21 (Tuesday) in Ahmedabad.

After SRH sealed a massive win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) earlier in the day, they moved to 17 points with a healthy net run rate of 0.414. In Pat Cummins' first season as a captain, the 2016 IPL champions have reached the playoffs and are one of the top contenders to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) couldn’t force a Q1 opportunity, with their net run rate (0.273) well below SRH.

It is the third washout of the season, with the other two being the clash between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 13 (Monday) and GT and SRH on May 16 (Thursday). It is the most washouts / no results in a season of IPL, with the previous highest being two in the 2009 season.

Meanwhile, the five-match winless Royals will now face the in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side in the Eliminator on May 22 (Wednesday). KKR are unfazed at the top of the table, with 20 points. The previous time an IPL fixture was abandoned after the toss was way back in 2012 between RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
