Kaali Taxi: Did Harbhajan Singh Make Racist Comment While Addressing Jofra Archer?

The England pacer finished with figures of 0/76 - the most expensive spell in IPL history

Not for the first time in his career, Harbhajan Singh finds himself in the middle of a controversy. This time it comes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. While on air, he referred to Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowler Jofra Archer as "Kaali Taxi," which roughly translates to black taxi.

The reference was made after Archer became the most expensive bowler in IPL history, with figures of 0/76 in his four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23 (Sunday). Harbhajan was drawing a similarity between how fast the London taxi meters ran and the pace at which Archer was conceding runs.

"London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai [Like the meter of London's black taxis, Archer's meter is also running fast]," Harbhajan was heard saying during his commentary stint in the SRH vs RR match.

Archer and his teammates got whacked around the park, as SRH posted 286/6 - the second-highest total in IPL history. In reply, RR fell 44 runs short despite fifties from Sanju Samson (66) and Dhruv Jurel (70).
