Jake Fraser-McGurk joins Delhi Capitals as Lungi Ngidi's replacement

Ngidi is the second Delhi player to have been ruled out after Harry Brook also pulled himself out of the tournament due to personal reasons

Delhi Capitals (DC) have named all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for South African pacer Lungisani Ngidi for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as the pacer has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

Ngidi, who has played 14 IPL matches and has 25 wickets against his name, was going to play a huge role for the Delhi-based franchise, especially with the first two matches being played on the east coast of Visakhapatnam, but after his forced absence, the team decided to go for an all-rounder instead of naming an out and out pacer.

Ngidi has become the second Delhi Capitals player to have been ruled out within a gap of two days as England middle-order batter Harry Brook has also pulled himself out of the tournament, grieving the loss of his grandmother, who passed away recently.

Meanwhile, Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has played a couple of ODIs for Australia, comes in as a replacement having impressed the scouts in the Big Bash League. In the last season of the Big Bash League, Fraser-McGurk slammed 257 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 158.64.

Fraser-McGurk, who made his made his ODI debut against West Indies in February this year, also holds the world record for the fastest List A ton. During his 29-ball century for Victoria, he also became the first batter in cricket history to score a ton in under 30 balls.
