On September 13 (Friday) at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Jake Fraser-McGurk became the second youngest Australian to hit a fifty in T20 Internationals. Fraser-McGurk scored his maiden T20I fifty at 22 years and 155 days. Only David Warner (22 years and 76 days) has scored a T20I fifty for Australia at a younger age.
The fifty in Cardiff marked a welcome return to form for young Fraser-McGurk, who got dropped from the side for the first T20I of the series following a horror run that saw him average 9.7 in T20s since July. But an illness to skipper Mitchell Marsh paved the way back into the side for the youngster, who batted at No.3 in the second T20I.
Fraser-McGurk walked in with Australia’s score reading 52/1 in 4.2 overs, and smashed 50 off 31 balls, hammering four fours and two sixes.
He brought up his fifty in the 13th over, off the bowling of Liam Livingstone. However, the 22-year-old perished almost immediately after bringing up his fifty, caught by Jamie Overton at long-on off the bowling of Livingstone.
