Ishan Kishan named in Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India A squad for Australia tour

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made his India debut during the T20I series against Bangladesh, has also been named in the squad

Ishan Kishan has been named in Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India A squad for the two-match red-ball series against Australia A, starting October 31 in Mackay. The wicketkeeper-batter was snubbed from a national contract earlier this year and hasn’t played a single game for India in 2024.

The left-handed batter made his return to domestic cricket in the Duleep Trophy and smashed 111 off 126 deliveries against India B. Kishan was then made Jharkhand’s captain for the Ranji Trophy and the aggressive batter responded with another hundred in the second round of the tournament.

Kishan has now been picked in the India A set-up alongside two other wicketkeepers - Abishek Porel and Ricky Bhui. Meanwhile, the likes of Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan and Baba Indrajith have been amongst runs and are almost certain starters alongside in-form Bhui and Kishan.

Fast-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made his India debut during the T20I series against Bangladesh, has also been named in the squad. Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Yash Dayal and Navdeep Saini are the four seamers, while left-arm spinner Manav Suthar and off-spinner Tanush Kotian will take care of the spin department.

After the first red-ball game in Mackay, the action will shift to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the second encounter (November 7-10). The players will stay in Australia after the series and will play a three-day intra-squad game (November 15-17) against India’s senior team before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Squad - Ruturaj Gaikwad (capt), Abhimanyu Easwaran (vc), Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Baba Indrajith, Ishan Kishan (wk), Abishek Porel (wk), Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Yash Dayal, Navdeep Saini, Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian
