Mitchell Starc ruled out of IPL 2025? 3 Players who can replace him at DC
Here are three players who are possible options to replace Starc if he pulls out of IPL 2025
Mitchell Starc, the legendary Australian pacer, has opted out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for personal reasons. His absence has not only dented the Australian bowling attack for the tournament but also put a dark cloud on his availability for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
If he opts out of the 2025 edition of the biggest cricket competition, it will be a massive blow for the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise, which signed him at the IPL 2025 auction for a whopping INR 11.75 crore, making him the leader of the bowling attack.
Many quality players went unsold in the mega auction. These are the three players who can possibly replace Mitchell Starc if he withdraws from IPL 2025.
Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur Rahman has a terrific record in the IPL. The Bangladesh pace head has done well for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while representing them in previous IPL editions.
Playing for DC is not new for ‘The Fizz’ as he was a part of the team in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, taking 10 wickets in 10 games.
With the likes of Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar, Mohit Sharma and Dushantha Chameera in the pace attack, the inclusion of Mustafizur Rahman will boost up the bowling, especially in middle overs and slog overs.
Jason Behrendorff
Jason Behrendorff is one of the most successful franchise T20 bowlers. He has been in excellent form recently, picking up 17 wickets in the recently concluded Big Bash League 2024/25 season, being the highest wicket-taker of the season.
In IPL, he has been a part of three sides: CSK, RCB and MI. In the 2023 season, he had a terrific season, picking up 14 wickets in 12 games at a bowling SR of 18.0.
He will be a like-for-like replacement for Mitchell Starc as he, too, has similar skills. He can be effective with the new ball early and can take wickets in the slog overs as well.
Adam Milne
Adam Milne has had a terrific time in T20 franchise cricket in the last two years. He had an excellent season in the recently concluded ILT20 in UAE where he was one of the highest wicket takers with 14 wickets.
He has been excellent in powerplay, taking 20 of his 41 wickets since 2024 in this phase. He has played for RCB, MI and CSK in the IPL picking up seven wickets in 10 games. He can be a good addition to the side in place of Mitchell Starc if he misses out.
