IPL 2025: How Much Time Will RCB's Jacob Bethell Take To Recover From Hamstring Injury?
Recovering from a hamstring injury could take days, weeks or months, depending on how severe it is
England’s young spin-bowling all-rounder Jacob Bethell is in major doubt for the 2025 Champions Trophy after injuring his left hamstring during the ongoing ODI series against India.
The 21-year-old was ruled out of the second ODI in Cuttack on February 9, and the extent of his injury will only be known in the coming days. Recovering from a hamstring injury could take days, weeks or months, depending on how severe it is.
England are not the only team who will be worried about Bethell’s injury. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who bought Bethell for INR 2.6 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, will also be keeping a close eye on his fitness.
Recovery time by grade
Grade 1: A minor muscle strain that can heal in a few days
Grade 2: A more severe strain that can take weeks to heal
Grade 3: A complete tear that can take months to heal and may require surgery
Bethell was impressive in the first ODI against India in Nagpur, scoring 51 runs and claiming one wicket in three overs of left-arm spin. He didn’t do much in the three T20Is he played in the five-match series.
Overall, Bethell has played 63 T20s and scored 1127 runs at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 136.77. He also has 11 wickets at an average of 26.9 and an economy rate of 7.65.
RCB are also sweating over the fitness of Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood, who has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy because of a hip injury.
