IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Appoint Former Australia Wicketkeeper As Assistant Coach
The 37-year-old will join the backroom staff led by Ashish Nehra
Gujarat Titans (GT) appointed former Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade as their new assistant coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the franchise announced on March 8 (Saturday). Wade was part of the side as a player until last year and has played 12 matches for the franchise. He was also part of the Hardik Pandya-led title-winning side in 2022.
"Champion. Fighter. Now our Assistant Coach! Welcome back to the GT Dugout, Matthew Wade!," the Titans wrote on X to announce Wade's new role.
The southpaw played for Australia until the T20 World Cup 2024, in which his side failed to make it to the semi-final. He was also part of Australia's support staff in an unofficial capacity for the white-ball series against Pakistan in November last year.
Wade will join head coach Ashish Nehra, Vikram Solanki, Parthiv Patel and Ashish Kapoor as part of GT's backroom staff. GT bought the likes of Jos Buttler, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips and Ishant Sharma. They also retained skipper Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia and Sai Sudharsan.
The Titans finished a disappointing eighth last season - their first under Gill. They will hope to put up a better show this time around.
