India vs England: Abhishek Sharma to miss second T20I in Chennai?
The opener twisted his ankle during a training session in Chennai
India’s swashbuckling opener Abhishek Sharma is in doubt for the second T20I against England after twisting his right ankle on January 24 (Friday), reported the Indian Express. The second T20I will be played in Chennai on January 25 (Saturday).
“Abhishek was visibly in pain and was attended to by the physio. While he did walk after some attention to his ankle, and even made his way to the nets in the MAC B Stadium, the left-hander didn’t come out to bat,” reported the portal.
The left-handed opener was in insane form in the first T20I in Kolkata. Chasing a target of 133, Abhishek whacked 79 off just 34 deliveries, slamming five fours and eight maximums.
If he fails to recover on time, Dhruv Jurel will most likely walk into the playing XI. The opening slot, however, could go to Tilak Varma to keep the left-right combination going with Sanju Samson.
Mohammed Shami, who didn’t play in Kolkata because of ‘India’s combination preferences’, bowled full throttle on the eve of Chennai T20I and looked match-ready if the opportunity arises.
