If England Try To Bazball In Australia, We’ll All Get A Few Days Off: Warner
The last time England won a Test in Australia was back in Sydney in 2011
Retired Australian opener David Warner has warned England not to go ‘full Bazball’ Down Under as he believes the high-risk approach might end up backfiring on bouncy Australian surfaces.
England have not won a single Test in Australia in 15 years, but there’s a lot of optimism surrounding the Three Lions’ chances this time around, particularly due to the advent of Bazball. Australia were able to neutralise Bazball in the 2023 Ashes, which ended in a draw, but only just - if not for rain interference in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, they would have surrendered the series 3-2.
But Warner expressed his doubts over Bazball succeeding on Australian wickets, which have proven to be extremely bowler friendly across the last five years.
"I don't know if Bazball is a myth now over there [in England], but I can't see it happening in Australia with the bounce and everything and the fields," Warner said, reported ESPNCricinfo.
"It would be pretty high risk to play that in Australia. Given that you want to wear the wickets out a little bit, get into day four, day five, it's probably not the way to go about it.
"But if that is the way they go about it, it's going to be high tempo, high energy and we'll all get a couple of days off at the back end I think."
The last time England won a Test in Australia was back in Sydney in 2011. Since then, they have played 15 Tests and have lost 13 while drawing two.
The 2025/26 Ashes will kick off at the Optus Stadium in Perth on November 21.
