I Was Quite Fuming: Sophie Ecclestone Reacts To Her Dhoni-Like Run-Out By Richa Ghosh
The match went into the Super Over and Ecclestone defended 8 in it against Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh of RCB
UP Warriorz’ Sophie Ecclestone was the player of the match in their Women’s Premier League Match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 24 (Monday).
The match went into the Super Over and Ecclestone defended eight in it against Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh of RCB, in what was the first-ever Super Over in the history of the WPL.
However, the match would not have headed into the Super Over itself, if Ecclestone had been quick enough to complete a single on the last ball on which her team required just one more run.
Reacting to how Richa Ghosh ran her out in pure MS Dhoni style, running with the ball from her position as wicketkeeper-batter and then taking the stumps out before the non-striker made it to the crease.
“I was quite fuming at that time. It was quite hard, I just had to run,” Ecclestone said in the post-match presentation.

The Englishwoman further revealed that usually she doesn’t get nervous bowling, but today it was different.
“I never get nervous bowling. That was the first time I was nervous (while bowling the super over) It was a massive team effort, so well done to us. [I am] Happy to get the smile on our faces,” said Ecclestone.
Smriti Mandhana, the captain of the RCB, did not know where the team went wrong and called it one of those days when you lose even from a winning position. They were defending 18 in the last over with UP eight down.
“It was disappointing. We did a lot of things right in the batting innings and bowling innings. These things happen in cricket, we will take it and come back stronger,” she said.
