Ellyse Perry, on October 8 (Tuesday), became only the fourth cricketer in the history of Women’s T20Is to score 2,000 runs and take 100 wickets. The star all-rounder from Australia achieved the feat against New Zealand in Match 10 of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah.
Sophie Devine, Nida Dar and Hayley Matthews are the other three cricketers on the list. Perry, who is yet to score a fifty in the T20 World Cup, crafted 30 off 24 deliveries on a two-paced Sharjah surface.
Walking in to bat at No.3, Perry slammed three fours and a six, and in the process, the right-hander batter went past 2000 runs in the 20-over format. Perry eventually got out to Amelia Kerr in the 14th over, getting knocked over off a wrong’un.
This is Perry’s ninth T20 World Cup. Overall, the 33-year-old has amassed close to 7000 runs and picked up 330 wickets for Australia across three formats.
