Did His Job To Perfection: Shashank Showers Praise At Punjab Kings Youngster After GT Win

Even after scoring 243 runs, Punjab Kings could win by only 11 runs in a tense finish in Ahmedabad

Vijaykumar Vyshak was at his lethal best as a death overs specialist bowler against the Gujarat Titans and became the biggest difference between what could have been a shocking loss for his team, Punjab Kings, to what turned out to be victory snatched from the proverbial jaws of defeat in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season opener in Ahmedabad on March 25 (Tuesday).

Praising the Karnataka pacer, Shashank Singh of the Kings in the post-match press conference said," Shashank said. "The way he bowled… in the bowling meetings, we usually plan all those things. So this was a planned thing. The way he executed the plan was commendable. Those were the hard overs he bowled because there was some dew.”

"These are the moments you have to win. Vyshak came and he nailed it. It is very difficult to bowl those yorkers, but he did his job to perfection and kudos to him,” added the all-rounder.

When Vyshak was introduced into the attack, the Titans needed just 75 off 36 balls. But the speedster gave only 10 runs in his first two overs and, as a result, the game turned on its head.

Shashank, who smashed an unbeaten 44 off just 16 balls, also denied a deserving century for his captain Shreyas Iyer.

Talking about Iyer, Shashank, who played the best part of his age-group cricket in Mumbai alongside the likes of Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Prithvi Shaw, explained how the new PBKS captain is one of the most selfless guys in cricket.

"It's a team game we all know, but then, in those situations, it's difficult to be that selfless, but Shreyas was. I have known him for the past 15 years. He is the same. He told me just to be calm, to play the cricketing shots that I usually play, to maintain my balance and, by God's grace, I think we had a good finish,” Shashank explained.
