Anrich Nortje ruled out of Australia ODIs due to lower back injury

Meanwhile, Aiden Markram will lead the Proteas in the fourth ODI in the absence of Tamba Bavuma who is nursing an abductor strain

Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of South Africa's remaining two One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Australia due to a lower back injury. Temba Bavuma, who has been in fine form in the series, will miss the next game at the SuperSport park due to a right abductor strain, and Aiden Markram will lead the side as a result.

Markram, the current T20 International (T20I) skipper, has led the Proteas in six ODIs so far.

Nortje also missed the previous game in Potchefstroom due to the same issue. He bowled five wicketless overs in the second ODI in Bloemfontein before walking off the field as Australia went on to win by 123 runs after posting a mammoth 392 for 8.

Nortje is one of the six fast bowlers named in South Africa's World Cup squad. He will be expected to lead the bowling line-up with Kagiso Rabada in the 10-team event.

Bavuma has been in fine form this series, having clammed 114*, 46 and 57 in the three ODIs so far. We could see Rassie van der Dussen slot into the team at three, with Reeza Hendricks opening with Quinton de Kock. Van der Dussen scored 17 and 8 in the first two games of the series before he was dropped to make way for Hendricks for the following game.

Australia lead the five-match series 2-1, following wins in the first two games in Bloemfontein. South Africa, however, kept their hopes of winning the series alive with a clinical 111-run win in the third game in Potchefstroom.
