After Going Unsold In Auction, Kane Williamson Returns to IPL In New Role
The former New Zealand skipper last played in the IPL in 2024 for Gujarat Titans
Former New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. However, he will feature in the tournament in a new role. Williamson has been named in a star-studded commentary panel along with Shikhar Dhawan, AB de Villiers, among others, as announced by Star Sports earlier today (March 21).
Williamson last played for Gujarat Titans (GT) until 2024, but his franchise did not retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
However, the 34-year-old is contracted to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 for Karachi Kings, where he will reunite with former IPL teammate David Warner.
The PSL 2025, starting April 11, will clash with the IPL for the first time. As a result, it still remains unclear if Williamson will continue to be part of the commentary team in the IPL or will fulfil his contract obligations in the PSL.
