5 factors that shaped RR's seven-wicket victory over LSG

Did you miss the game? Worry not. This recap has got you covered

The Rahul-Hooda Partnership

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a mediocre powerplay (46/2) after losing Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis early. That’s when Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul combined to score 115 runs together in just 61 deliveries, and gave LSG a platform to reach 200 and more.

Rajasthan’s brilliant death bowling

After bowling superbly in the powerplay, both Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma bowled admirably at the death for RR. Sandeep packed up Pooran, and Boult targeted the block hole of the LSG batters, who could score only 46 in the last five overs.

Samson and Jurel show

Sanju Samson came at the end of the powerplay and scored 71* runs off just 33 balls in a chase of 197 after his team was three down for 78 in the ninth over. He combined with Dhruv Jurel, who, like a ball of energy, gave RR’s chase the impetus it required to reach home with a 52* off just 34 deliveries.

Where was Ravi Bishnoi?

Bishnoi came to bowl for the first time in the 16th over of RR’s chase. Rahul failed to introduce Bishnoi at the right time, and thus the leg-spinner wasn’t able to use the big boundaries at Ekana to his team’s advantage. In his only over, he fed the RR batters with a lot of pace which they feasted on with no hesitation.

No ‘Pace is Pace Yaar’ for LSG

LSG pacers gave away 139/1 in just 13 overs. Only Stoinis returned with a wicket. They erred on the short and full side of a good length and were punished for it. Not only were they awry in the powerplay as they went at 10 RPO, but they also failed to apply pressure at the death during the chase.
