Dhaliwal, Kirton set up platform
Navneet Dhaliwal (61) and Nicholas Kirton (51) set it up for Canada as their 62-run stand off just 35 deliveries for the third wicket allowed Canada to put up a formidable total of 194/5 on the board - their highest in T20Is.
Movva finishes off in style
After Dhaliwal departed, it was important for Canada to keep the momentum going. Thankfully for them, that’s when Shreyas Movva (32*) walked in to bat and wasted little time to get going, finishing the innings off with the sort of flourish that was required, striking at 200.
Gous-Jones stand
Chasing 195, USA were struggling at 48/2 after eight overs. That’s when Nikhil Dutta came on to bowl, starting off with a no-ball, wide and six. That 19-run over completely shifted the momentum in USA's favour as Andries Gous (65) and Aaron Jones (94*) stole the show with a match-winning 131-run stand off 58 deliveries to put USA on top.
Match-changing no-ball
It was a poor display with the ball from Canada, which lacked discipline, as their 14 wides and three no-balls would depict. However, Jeremy Gordon (2 NB, 3 wd) over-stepping proved to be costly on one occasion when Gous was caught in the deep in the 14th over with US needing to score at close to 10 an over. That proved to be a fatal error by the pacer as Gous made them pay.
Gordon's poor over
Jeremy Gordon had gone for just 11 runs in his first two overs and with Canada desperately in need of a wicket, he was brought into the attack in the 14th over. What followed was absolute carnage, that involved no-balls, wides, fours and sixes, as he conceded 33 from that over – the most in a T20 World Cup since Yuvraj Singh hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in 2007.
