3 Indian Batters Who Have Dominated Jasprit Bumrah In IPL
A couple of Indian batters have got the better of Bumrah in the IPL, and here we look at those individuals
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in the history of this game. The right-arm paceman has managed to ace every single format and made things extremely difficult for almost every batter he has come face to face against, be it for India in international cricket or Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Bumrah is India’s biggest match-winner in all three formats, so much so that him not playing in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has reduced the Men in Blue’s chances of winning the cup by at least 30 percent. The 31-year-old is currently recovering from a back injury, and MI will hope he is fit before the IPL 2025.
Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 and has been part of MI’s all five title-winning campaigns. Overall, the seamer has 165 wickets in 133 IPL games at an average of 22.52 and an economy of just 7.3, despite bowling most of his overs in the powerplay and death.
However, a couple of Indian batters have got the better of Bumrah in the IPL, and here we look at those names.
KL Rahul
No other batter has scored more runs against Bumrah than KL Rahul. The top-order batter has scored 146 runs against Bumrah in 117 deliveries. Rahul has gotten out to Bumrah only twice, maintaining an average of 73 and a strike rate of close to 125.
Both his dismissals have come in the death overs, where he has operated at a strike rate of 148.89 against Bumrah. Even in the middle overs, Rahul’s strike rate is 152.38 against the top paceman in the world. Rahul will be playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 and both players will be eager to get the better of each other.
Manish Pandey
Now, Rahul might have the most runs against Bumrah but it’s Manish Pandey and the man mentioned below him in this list who can actually claim that they well and truly own the best bowler of the current generation. Pandey has 80 runs off 42 deliveries against Bumrah, going at an insane strike rate of 190.5.
There’s more: Pandey has never been dismissed by Bumrah in the IPL and has dominated him in all phases. Pandey has 11 innings against Bumrah, and only twice has he operated at a strike rate of less than 150.
Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik has retired from Indian cricket, so there’s no chance he will come up against Bumrah in a professional T20 game in the future. Bumrah can still better his numbers against Rahul and Pandey, but whenever someone goes back and looks at his head-to-head records against every batter in the IPL, they will be surprised by what Karthik managed to achieve against the paceman.
68 runs off 37 deliveries at a strike rate of 183.8 without getting out even once - Karthik surely has dominated Bumrah on multiple occasions.
