Will take a leaf out of Pakistan's pace playbook for T20Is: Australian speedster Bartlett
Australia’s pacer insisted that it was exciting to watch Pakistani pacers go 140kmph from both ends
Pakistan’s first ODI series win in Australia in 22 years has inspired the new-age Australian quicks, with Xavier Bartlett insisting that the home pace unit will try to take a ‘leaf’ out of Pakistan’s pace playbook. The Queenslander was left in awe over Pakistan’s pace quartet, who bowled with venom throughout the three-match ODI series.
While Haris Rauf ended up in the limelight with 10 wickets in the series, he was supported brilliantly by Shaheen Afridi (8 wickets), Naseem Shah (5 wickets) and Mohammad Hasnain (3 wickets). Bartlett was also impressed with how the pacers went about their business bowling rapidly from both ends.
"They've been amazing," Bartlett told reporters at the Gabba on Tuesday.
"The last two games they've only used four bowlers. (They're bowling) 140 from both ends for the whole game. It's been pretty exciting to watch.”
"They bowled really great lengths and they were just really attacking … they might go for a few more runs at times but the lengths they've bowled have been really good and (I'll) hopefully look to emulate that.
"We'll take a leaf out of their book for this series."
The 25-year-old pacer, who has played six internationals, started strongly with 14 wickets. In the 50-over format, he averages just 4.75 while averaging 17.66 in a demanding T20 format. His return is for sure going to revitalise the Australian pace unit, which looked lacklustre in the last two ODIs against Pakistan.
Bartlett will form a partnership with another tearaway quick, Spencer Johnson, who can swing the ball quickly.
"I love bowling with Spencer," Bartlett said.
"He's someone who bowls left arm first and foremost, but bowls 150 (kmph), swings it, he's pretty much the perfect package. Hopefully, he can complement me at the other end, and I'm really looking forward to getting out there again with him."
After the disastrous three-match ODI series, Australia would be hoping to wipe that sorrow off with a win in the upcoming T20I series, which starts on November 14.
