Why Is One Of Bangladesh's Most Senior Players Missing From 11 vs India?

The veteran cricketer misses out due to a calf injury

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in their Champions Trophy fixture against India. Their playing 11 had a notable absentee as Mahmudullah missed out. According to Bangladesh commentator Athar Ali Khan, Mahmudullah was ruled out due to a calf injury.

Mahmudullah, 39, is one of Bangladesh's most experienced players in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), with 238 matches under his belt. He is Bangladesh's fourth-highest run-getter, with 5,685 runs at 36.67, including four hundreds and 32 fifties.

Had Mahmudullah been fit, he would have most likely come in for Jaker Ali. The veteran all-rounder is coming at the back of an excellent Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he scored 206 runs at a strike rate of 143.05, which paved the way for Fortune Barishal to go all the way.

He was in excellent form in the 50-over format in 2024, hitting 337 runs at 48.14 with four fifties in nine innings.

Bangladesh would hope that he is available for their next game against New Zealand on February 24 (Monday).
