WATCH: RCB Star Caps Off Embarrassing Campaign With Horror Shot

It was a grim end to the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign of Phil Salt

7 balls faced, including a wide. 6 mindless, full-blooded slogs. 1 horror dismissal.

It was a grim end to the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign of Phil Salt, who bowed out of the competition having had an atrocious run.

After falling to an absolute worldie from Alex Carey in England’s first game, Salt was bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai in the Afghanistan game after he missed an ugly hoick across the line. But, in many ways, the right-hander saved the worst for the last, playing a six-ball knock today that cried that he simply does not have the temperament to succeed in 50-over cricket.

Salt walked in pre-determined that he won’t play each ball on its merit and rather slog at everything, and did just that across his short stay.

After getting a couple of boundaries away - the second of which just evaded the fielder - he perished on the final ball of the over when a bouncer from Marco Jansen climbed on him and took the top edge.

The dismissal meant that Salt finished Champions Trophy 2025 with the following numbers: 30 runs scored, 25 balls faced, 10.00 average, a dismissal every 8.3 balls.

It remains to be seen who will take over from Jos Buttler and start a ‘new era’ for England in ODIs, but, at this point in time, it’d be a real surprise if Salt makes it to the starting XI of England’s next ODI, which is a few months away.
