The BCCI has confirmed that wicketkeeper batter Uma Chetry will be replacing Yastika Bhatia in the squad for the forthcoming ODI series away in Australia, starting December 5.
Yastika, who featured in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand Women last month, made six appearances for Melbourne Stars Women earlier this month in the Women’s Big Bash League, and had a solid campaign, scoring 154 runs at an average of 25.66. She finished as the second-highest run-getter for the franchise behind Meg Lanning (158) despite playing three fewer games than the latter.
However, India will not be able to utilize her good form in the forthcoming ODIs against Australia as the 22-year-old has been ruled out due to a wrist injury.
“The BCCI Medical Team has confirmed that Ms. Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia due to a wrist injury. Her recovery is being closely monitored,” a release from BCCI read.
Yastika’s replacement Chetry, 22, is already capped in T20Is but is yet to play ODIs for the country. But Chetry is no stranger to Australian conditions, having been a part of the India ‘A’ Women’s team that toured the country in August.
In the previous edition of the Senior Women's One Day Trophy, Chetry scored 160 runs at an average of 32.00, representing Assam.
The three-match ODI series will kick off on November 5 at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. While the first two games will both be played at the same venue, the W.A.C.A in Perth in host the third and final ODI.
