Tess Flintoff gets the job done for Australia A in four-day game against India A

Uma Chetry and Raghvi Bist added 79 runs for the seventh wicket, giving India some hope of chasing down the 289-run target

Uma Chetry and Raghvi Bist gave India A Women some hope of pulling off a stunning victory on the final day of the four-day game against Australia A Women, but seamer Tess Flintoff said not today.

India started day four needing 140 runs and only had four wickets remaining. Chetry and Bist, however, added 79 runs for the seventh wicket, giving India some hope of chasing down the 289-run target.

That’s when Flintoff dismissed both Chetry (47) and Bist (26) in the same over and sealed the game for Australia. Sayali Satghare (21) did put up some fight but was left with too much to do.

Satghare was the last wicket to fall, getting dismissed by Charli Knott. India eventually fell short by 45 runs. "It was a bit nerve-racking at the start,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Knott as saying.

“They put on 60 runs or so without a wicket lost. But we knew once we got one wicket we would get the rest, so we just had to stick in there. They were going pretty aggressive, so we knew something would come.

"Day one we felt a little bit nervous, not putting in a great performance with the bat, but the bowling group has managed to do an awesome job and also the second innings with the bat, our lower order really fought to get us to a defendable total."

Prior to this red-ball encounter, India had also lost the T20 series 3-0 and the one-day series 2-1.
