Tamim Iqbal Discharged After Life-threatening Heart Attack During DPL

The former Bangladesh skipper’s return to cricket is uncertain after he suffered a heart attack before a Dhaka Premier League game on March 24

Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal was discharged from the hospital after suffering a heart attack before participating in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game on March 24 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan in Sagar.

Iqbal had reported feeling uneasy prior to the game between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club. He was captaining the Mohammedan Sporting Club and had also gone out for the toss. But he had to leave the game during the Shinepukur’s innings and was rushed to the hospital on a helicopter from the stadium.

The doctors administered CPR and DC shock to the cricketer and later a stent was inserted in his heart. He was then admitted to the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 26.

While the doctors didn’t comment on when he’ll be able to return to cricket, they informed that Iqbal would need to make some crucial changes to his lifestyle to have a healthy life ahead.

Under the circumstances, Iqbal’s return to the field might take some time. Notably, he was in great form during the DPL, where he scored 368 runs in seven 50-over matches at an average of 73.60 and a strike rate of 102.50.

Iqbal had announced retirement from international cricket for the second time ahead of the Champions Trophy in 2025.
