Spencer Johnson registers best T20I bowling figures by an Australian pacer

This is also the left-armer's maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket

Spencer Johnson has registered the best bowling figures by an Australian pacer during the second T20 International (T20I) against Australia in Sydney. Johnson finished with figures of 5/26 from his four overs, bettering James Faulkner's 5/27 against Pakistan in Mohali in 2016.

This is also Johnson's maiden fifer in T20 cricket, bettering his 4/26 he picked up in the Big Bash League (BBL). He started off with the wicket of Sahibzada Farhan and then got rid of Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha off consecutive deliveries. He returned in the death to get the big wicket of Usman Khan and Abbas Afridi to effectively kill the game.

The best bowling figures for an Australian bowler belongs to Ashton Agar, who picked up 6.30 against New Zealand in Wellington in 2021. Besides Agar, Johnson, and Faulkner, only Adam Zampa and Matthew Short have picked up a fifer for Australia in T20Is.

Known for his tearaway pace, left-arm pacer Johnson made his T20I debut against South Africa in Durban last year. He also played five times in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for Gujarat Titans (GT), picking up four wickets in five matches.

He made his T20 debut in the BBL last year for Brisbane Heat and has since taken 68 wickets in the format.
