RCB Legend Wants Rohit Not To Even Think Of 'Retirement'
Not only just captaincy, the former Proteas captain was impressed by Rohit, the batter and his intent at the start of the innings
South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend AB de Villiers said that India captain Rohit Sharma should not even think about retiring from ODI cricket. His statement, after Rohit’s affirmation that his retirement news is nothing but rumours, only means that the ICC Champions Trophy-winning captain will go for one last dance at the ODI World Cup in 2027.
Reasoning why Rohit could end up as one of the greatest ODI captains, de Villiers, on his YouTube channel, said, “Compared to other captains, look at Rohit’s win percentage, it’s almost 74%, which is substantially more than any other captain of the past.”
“If he keeps going, he will go down as one of the best ODI captains of all time. Rohit has also said he is not retiring and has requested that rumours be stopped spreading,” added the man who hit a hundred in a charity match he played earlier this month.
Not only captaincy, the former Proteas captain was even impressed by Rohit the batter and especially his intent at the start of the innings.
“Why would he retire? With that kind of record, not only as captain but also as a batter. That 76 in the final, giving India a fantastic start, laying the foundation for success and leading from the front when the pressure was at its peak.”
Talking about the transformation in Rohit Sharma’s ODI game post 2022, de Villiers said, “He has also sort of transformed his game. If we have a look at his strike rate in the Powerplay, it was quite low for an opening batter in the Powerplay, but since 2022, his strike rate has risen to 115 in the first powerplay, and that’s the difference between good and great.”
