Saud Shakeel Becomes First Pakistan Batter To Be Dismissed Timed-Out

Shakeel is the seventh player in the history of first-class cricket to be dismissed timed-out, there is one Indian in the list too

In what could be called a laughing matter, it also paints a sorry picture of the state of Pakistan cricket as their Champions Trophy star batter, Saud Shakeel, who hit a fifty against India, was dismissed timed-out on March 4 (Tuesday).

Shakeel, who was scheduled to bat at number five for State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) against Pakistan Television (PTV) in the President’s Cup Grade 1 First-Class tournament, reportedly slept off his chance to get to the crease and was declared timed-out.

Courtesy of this schoolboyish, or should be called ignorant behaviour by Shakeel, he now holds the unfortunate record of becoming the first Pakistani and seventh batter overall in the history of the game to be dismissed timed-out in first-class cricket.

Before Shakeel, Andrew Jordaan of South Africa, Hemulal Yadav of India, Vasberth Drakes and Ryan Austin of West Indies, AJ Harris of England and Charles Kunje of Zimbabwe were declared timed-out in first-class cricket. However, the conditions in which they were timed-out were far more difficult than Shakeel sleeping in the dressing room.

As far as the match is considered, which is being played at night instead of usual day First-Class matches due to Ramadan, PTV were 49/3 and struggling against SBP, who posted 205 in their first innings.
