Report alleges that Gambhir blamed Mumbai batter for dressing room leak

Multiple reports over the past month have claimed that there is unrest and divide within the Indian dressing room

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir allegedly claimed that Sarfaraz Khan was responsible for the dressing room leaks during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.

India went into the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney with the series still alive (1-2), but all hell had broken loose off the field in the days leading up to the fifth game, with an Indian Express report claiming that Gambhir tore into the players in the aftermath of the Melbourne loss.

With many wondering how journalists had got access to what unfolded in the dressing room, News18 have quoted a News24 Sports report claiming Gambhir, in the BCCI review meeting, singled out Sarfaraz for leaking the information.

“According to News24 Sports, Gambhir made the accusation in the BCCI’s review meeting of the Australia tour in Mumbai. He said Khan leaked the bit about the head coach’s angry speech to the team after India’s big defeat in the fourth Test of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG),” the News18 report said.

“The report also said Gambhir’s anger might also hamper the player’s career till he’s in charge,” the report further added.

Multiple reports over the past month have claimed that there is unrest and divide within the Indian dressing room. A report in The Australian claimed that one reserve batter alleged during the BGT that there was no communication to him from the management. The same report claimed that India did not celebrate the victory in Perth ‘as a team’, with individuals choosing to go their own way.

In the aforementioned BCCI review meeting, which involved skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, the board are believed to have decided to restrict the presence of family members during long tours, going forward.
